- When a book can keep you up until the wee hours of the morning, then haunt you into your dreams, then you know you are reading a damn good book! Being a fan of the Tudors and of those times I thoroughly enjoyed this series.
- Nobody brings Tudor England to life the way Sansom does. The sights, smells, sounds....it is easy for the reader to imagine that they are walking through the crowded London streets. This is what made to fell in love with in Sansom's writing.
- Sansom cleverly draws the reader in and holds them by the skin of their teeth; bringing in characters, twisting and turning the plot and ratcheting-up the intrigue with every turn of the page.
- Both the principal and the minor characters are extremely well developed
- Endearing protagonist with a hunchback! Shardlake is a likable yet flawed human being. If you never thought you'd find yourself rooting for a lawyer before, Matthew will not only change your outlook but will make you forget every bad novel you've had the misfortune to read.
