The Tavistock Plot by Tracy Grant
Unlike many long-running series, each new book in this one feels refreshingly vibrant, often surpassing the charm of its early installments. I couldn't help but devour this latest entry in just a couple of days, begrudging every moment spent away from the pages. The story unfolds dramatically against the backdrop of the Tavistock Theater, where the mysterious death of a young man casts a shadow just days before Melanie's much-anticipated play is set to premiere.
Lewis Thornsby, a vibrant figure in town known for his charisma, is discovered lifeless backstage by Melanie and her children. As the curtains rise on a web of intrigue, the Rannochs, with their eclectic circle of friends and family, are swiftly drawn into the dark mystery of his demise.
What secrets lie behind Thornsby’s ties to the radical group known as the Levellers? Was his engagement to a promising young actress merely a façade, or did something more sinister contribute to his untimely end? With each friend concealing their own truths, the Rannochs must navigate a maze of cryptic clues and convoluted leads to unearth the true identity of the murderer.
The intricately woven mystery surrounding the murder captivated my attention from start to finish. Yet, the most thrilling aspect of the narrative was the revelation of Julian St. Juste's past—an aspect I never anticipated. This unexpected twist breathes new life into the series, setting the stage for exciting developments in the stories yet to come.
