“Fear is an aid to the warrior. It is a small fire burning. It heats the muscles, making us stronger. Panic comes when the fire is out of control, consuming all courage and pride.”

The book was extremely well written with such well-developed characters you found yourself laughing and crying with them. The author could take an old story and played out and turned it into this magical tale that had me reading non-stop until the end.
The struggles and successes of these individuals put our modern-day struggles into perspective. It gives the reader an in-depth look at the day-to-day life of a soldier and their leaders. It shows how, when it’s all said and done, it only takes one man to change the course of history. One poor decision unbalanced the scales of justice that could lead to the downfall of an empire.
I enjoyed this whole new take on the legend of the Trojan War, which is told by the characters themselves. Most Trojan War stories focus on the warriors, the princes, the kings, but this series goes deeper than that and shows how the people of each of these countries and cultures were affected by these events in history and humanizes many of the characters that we hear about such as Andromache, Cassandra, Odysseus, and Aeneas, and the storytelling is so well-balanced between plot, characterization, and action sequences that you could feel you are there in their massive galleys, or before the gates of Troy yourself.
